Review Samsung Galaxy Nexus by kafaakBlog

Posted by kafaak On January - 17 - 2012

In my country, Thailand, Samsung Galaxy Nexus received a warm welcome from Thai users. I don’t know how many have been sold, but I heard it was a lot.

The first time I had my hands on Galaxy Nexus was when I attended Samsung Galaxy Note World Tour last year. I was very excited. But, what’s so exciting about it? Because it’s Nexus!

As many of Android users may already know, the Nexus family is the official Android smartphone from Google which guarantee that the OS can be updated to the latest version.

It’s a new year and I spent a couple of days sorting my olf stuff and I found this, Compaq PResario B1900 series laptop. 4 years ago it was the main machine I use everyday. It has Intel® Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz with 2GB of RAM and 160GB of HDD. But I hardly use it now as several of its components worn off over time. Wireless Card is not functioning anymore (as you can see that I have to use SMC USB wireless dongle). LCD broke and instead of paying $3000 to fix it at HP service center, I paid $250 at a repair shop in my neighbourhood. It’s fixed but the backlight can no longer be turned off. Well, that’s fine with me. Battery life is out of question. It’s 4 year-old. Now, it can’t live without AC power.

Now I have to decice whether to trash it or try to find a way to use it for something. Then, I come up with the idea. Why don’t I try to use it as a media server at my home? Lately, almost everyone in my family has got personal tablet (both iPad and Android). It would be nice to have the media server that can stream movies or TV shows on demand to any tablets or smartphones in my home. More importantly, the setup must not be complicated.

Happy New Year 2012

Guys! This is my last post for the year 2011. I wish you all the best for the coming year 2012. Worry not. The world is not going to come to an end soon. Earth has been around for billion of years and will be around for billion of years, I believe. However, let’s just spend your last day of the year like it’s the last day of your life! Party!!!!

Next year is going to be a tough year as I just start blogging on my own domain instead of kafaak.wordpress.com. To attract more audiences, I decide to do blogging in both Thai and English. And as you may already know, not every post will be available in both languages. I will do my best to make all of my review in both languages, though. Instead of having 2-3 episodes per device, I will just sum them up in one English episode per dvice. Some contents will be available only in English. Please support me by inviting your friends to visit my site.

Review HTC Sensation XL by kafaakBlog

Steve Jobs claimed that 3.5-inch screen is the best-fit for anyone hands. That’s the main reason why iPhone always has that screen size. However, Android smartphone makers think differently (and I do agree with them in my blog: When Size Does Matter). When it comes to screen size, Android smartphones come with choices. Lately, we can see the trend that high-end Android smartphone tends to have large screen size ranged from 4 inches to 5.3 inches. HTC is the first to jump into this large-screen trend and its latest product, HTC Sensation XL, is going to get my review.

Spam never dies

Posted by kafaak On December - 27 - 2011

The latest Intelligence Report from Symantec shows that spam in email showed the decrease 3.7%. It’s now 70.5% of all the email sent.

Does this mean spam is dying? I’d say “no”. Although the figure shows that spam emails are decreasing, it’s still 1 in every 1.42 emails, according to Symantec.

Another factor that leads to decrease in spam email is the rise of social networking. More and more people communicate via social media services such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc. Posts in these social media could reach more people in less time. We want to do more with less, so do spammers. Now spammers lay their eyes on popular social networking sites. As you can see from the attack Facebook got last month. You can expect more and more to come in 2012.

Merry X’Mas 2011

We do celebrate Christmas in Thailand as well, although most of us just recovered from flood crisis that last from October to early this month. Many are still suffering from flooding.

I found this amazing Christmas tree at my neighbourhood. It’s made of sandbags (you know, we use sandbag to protect our houses from water).

I appreciate that my house was not affected by flood and I am symphatized with those who are affected. But we just can’t keep feeling down.

On Saturday I went to a famous market called “Don Wai” . It was still flood there but the merchants learn to live with it. Yes, life must go on.

Review Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus by kafaakBlog

Posted by kafaak On December - 24 - 2011

As I state clearly in my blog that size does matter, Samsung offer a variety of choices for its tablet screen size. People may think that Galaxy Tab 10.1 or 8.0 is a nice tablet (personally, I like 8.9” screen size), but many will think they are too big to carry arround. Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 (the original one) is said to had been shipped 2 million units, according to Samsung announcement in January (well, that’s the old record, I know. But it’s the latest figure I can find on Google). The popularity of Galaxy Tab 7 is due to the fact that it’s best-fit for many hands and is light weight and thus make it easy to carry arround. Now that the device is in my hands, I will take you a tour to the 2nd Generation of the device many people love.
